Interaction of Shock Waves with Magnetic Fields

چکیده
In continuation of the work on interaction between shock waves and magnetic fields 2 the experiments reported here measured the atomic and electron densities in the interaction region by means of an interferometric and a spectroscopic method. The transient atomic density was also calculated using a one-dimensional theory based on the work of JOHNSON 3, but modified to give an improved physical model. The experimental results were compared with the theoretical predictions.

The Magnetohydrodynamics of Shock-Cloud Interaction in Three Dimensions
The magnetohydrodynamic evolution of a dense spherical cloud as it interacts with a strong planar shock is studied, as a model for shock interactions with density inhomogeneities in the interstellar medium. The cloud is assumed to be small enough that radiative cooling, thermal conduction, and self-gravity can be ignored. A variety of initial orientations (including parallel, perpendicular, and...
متن کاملArc Phenomena and Gasdynamic Effects due to Interaction of Shock Waves with Magnetic Fields II
The already published first part of this paper1 described arc phenomena and gasdynamic effects produced by interaction of shock-heated plasma flow with a magnetic field perpendicular to the flow direction. Currents of density j flowed through electrodes flush mounted on the inside of the shock tube and connected on the outside. The plasma wras therefore subjected to retarding j X B forces direc...
متن کاملArc Phenomena and Gasdynamic Effects due to Interaction of Shock Waves with Magnetic Fields
The arc phenomena occurring on interaction of shock-heated plasma with a magnetic field were studied in order to achieve an approximately uniform current distribution in a certain volume using a number of small electrodes. This is necessary for producing plane gasdynamical effects such as reflected shocks and one-dimensional flow behind them in order to compare experimental results with theory....
متن کاملPropagation and Interaction of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic Waves in Two Stream Free Electron Laser in the Presence of Self-Fields
A relativistic theory for two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a one-dimensional helical wiggler and ion-channel guiding in the presence of self-fields are presented. A dispersion relation (DR) which includes coupling between the electromagnetic and the electrostatic waves is derived from a fluid model, with all of the relativistic terms related to the transverse wiggler motion. This DR is...
متن کاملClusters of Galaxies: Shock Waves and Cosmic Rays
Recent observations of galaxy clusters in radio and X-ray indicate that cosmic rays and magnetic fields may be energetically important in the intracluster medium. According to the estimates based on theses observational studies, the combined pressure of these two components of the intracluster medium may range between 10% ∼ 100% of gas pressure, although their total energy is probably time depe...
